Interesting how in an ill-conceived attempt to increase equality, Obama et al will foster a more unequal system, with lousy service for most (not to mention bankrupting the government), but excellent service for those who can pay cash.

A lot of the dermatologists that I know are leaving academic practice (and have been for years) for private practice where a substantial component of their workday includes aesthetic cash-only services.

There are major academic medical centers that don’t have serious dermatology departments, or full-time academic dermatologists on staff. The work is covered by a patch-work of community docs.

Hopefully, all the states won’t pass such a law at the same time. That way the states that see all the doctors move out of the states that pass the licensing law will have second and third thoughts.

Commenter William lays out the next logical step. The step following that is medical services in the black market. Soon enough we are back to bartering services for goods. Funny how they call themselves “progressives”.

I fully expect to see that within a year of Obamacare passing because the exodus will be large. The Supreme Court arguments might be pretty interesting, 14th amendment and all. The “Mandate” case might be a preview, as Congress tries to tell to buy a service. Then comes Congress telling us we have to sell a service at their price.

If America were still a nation under the Rule of Law I’d reply that such a requirement would never pass constitutional muster.
