Free rope here – help yourself

Now that the Olympics have concluded, another gymnastics exhibition has begun, as the Kerry campaign should be doing some very challenging contortions to distance themselves from the anti-RNC protests going on in New York. I was watching some coverage last night of a young man throwing dixie cups of water at middle-aged Republican delegates while yelling “Yeah?!? C’mon!! Whatya gonna do about it?!?” High dialogue there. And then these pearls: “Republican murderers go home and kill your babies!” and “Bitch, go home! We don’t want you here!”. Wonderful examples of erudite, tolerant young Dems. I don’t think this will “play in Peoria”, and I’ll mete out all the rope they need to fashion their noose.

  1. Rove must be behind it. Ha.

I was hoping it would go like this. The Donks will be shown in their true light, with a large proportion of their party as a collection of nutjobs.

  2. That’s what I always loved about NYC. The style, the sophistication, the taste, and above all the refined international sense of nuance….

More seriousl, no idea what effect it will have beyond the RNC proper but watching NY cops mobilized to deal with this silliness a couple of weeks before the 9/11 anniversary is a bit…I don’t know. Something doesn’t compute.

  3. It makes sense to me. From the City’s POV, the risk of scaring away current and future tourist and convention dollars is much more immediate than is the risk of another terror attack. Also, an NYC failure adequately to police the demonstrators might lead to financial retaliation against the City by the Bush administration, whereas heightened terror concerns bring more State and federal money. Public-choice theory in action.

  4. Wait – this was shown on TV? By the mainstream media??

I’m stunned – I figured Rather, Jennings, Brokaw etc. would have done their damndest to gloss over the viciousness of the protests, and make it seem like a 200K+ collection of Ghandis walking soulfully through the streets.

  5. I’d be surprised if the MSM ignored the protests, no matter how vicious. You see, the MSM agrees with these protests, and therefore does not seem to be able to imagine that the other half not only don’t find their antics artistic or justified but instead see it as petulant and horrifying.

In short, the MSM thinks it’s all pretty cute, so why not televise it?
