I buy a lot of used SciFi books at various sources. Deciding what books to buy is often a problem. (The term “you can’t tell a book by it’s cover” usually applies’) Except with Baen books. If I see Baen on the spline, I buy the book, period! (That’s how I became semi-addicted to David Drake.)

Many laud the writers, but few laud the publishers that allow us to read those writers. He WILL be missed.

I never heard of this Baen person. What’s wrong with Heinlein?

Heinlein was, of course, an incredibly influential science fiction author.

Baen was an editor, which means that he would buy and publish the works of authors so they would have the chance to become influential instead of slipping away into obscurity.

I think I mentioned all this above in my post.

I am really sorry to hear this. He was a great man, by all accounts, and a real innovator. Science fiction has lost a champion. Godspeed, Jim.
