I’ve got this little portable DVD player. It works fine but the sound even all the way up is too quiet. I am an electronics illiterate. It is a Polaroid PDM-1058. Does anyone know whether I can run some external speakers out the earphone jack? And if so what kind would be good to get?

It’s spitting out analog audio through the headphone port, so pretty much any computer speakers with a mini-jack will work, and should be plenty loud. It just won’t do 5.1 surround sound or anything fancy like.

If you’re playing it at home, you could also get a mini-jack to RCA Y splitter and hook it up to your stereo system, which is what I do with my Media Center pc.

Depends on how portable you expect this to be. Powered speakers such as the ones I have on my computer will certainly work. Some run off batteries, and some need to be plugged into the wall.
