  1. I sincerely hope that everyone who helps produce this congenial site, and all who participate and/or visit here, have as much to be thankful for as this foolish old man does.

It is easy to forget, in the daily exercise of noting the many problems and difficulties we face as individuals and as a community, that by any rational standard, we are living in the land of milk and honey that millennia of our ancestors could only dream of, and pray for, as they struggled through a life of poverty, disease, ignorance, and hardship.

I know I show up here with plenty of jeremiads about this or that, but I am optimistic about our future, both as an American, and as a member of the wider global community.

  2. Well, the turkey is in the oven at 8:30 AM for a slow cook day. Dinner at 4.

Family this afternoon and quiet times. I wonder what next Thanksgiving will bring ?

The stripping of the Chicago city Christmas tree is only the beginning.
