Some Chicago Boyz know each other from student days at the University of Chicago. Others are Chicago boys in spirit. The blog name is also intended as a good-humored gesture of admiration for distinguished Chicago boys including those pictured above.

Great O'Rourke article. I'll read the other one later. Yep, it's big, complicated, and busy here. The language and social systems are archaic, but the ability to handle capital growth is built in to the national psyche. Pray the CPC is planning to wither itself away, but don't bet on it. They are the ultimate pragmatic authority, and they will do whatever it takes. I hang out with some pretty smart Chinese, and get a lot of good insights. They're really not interested in democracy; they want good administrators. And to quote them, "We ARE free now! We can live where we want, work for whom we choose, and marry who we like. None of this was possible even 25 years ago." Just my liang mao.

That is a good essay by O'Rourke. Thanks for the link. China is very interesting and certainly gives us a lot to think about.
