“Solar and wind, beloved of Democrats, have their uses”

Only as red herrings, or as Jam Tomorrow and Never Jam Today. a couple of years ago it was wind, solar, and bio-mass. Then bio-mass was revealed to be a potential disaster, so now its just wind and solar.

Order a high tech industrial-grade turbine today... get it in 2012. Yes, it has that kind of lead time. Let's assume a crash program to actually build not only more factories but also to pay for these things. We're looking at not having anything even for *testing* purposes ("Does this really work on a large scale?") until the middle of a second Obama term. Yeah, let's bet the farm on THAT idea.

My old boss said that Democrats (his mother held state office somewhere) had the same attitude toward business that some jerks had towards dogs i.e. they like them when they were small and cute but when they got big they wanted to have them put down.

What were seeing here is the evolution of caste of mandarins, a permanent ruling class. They invent reasons why people won’t do the right thing unless the mandarins wave a gun in their face. Everyone except the mandarins are corrupt and venal but the wise and virtuous mandarins will set everything to right.

It’s an old dream, dating back to at least Confucius but it never works.
