Some Chicago Boyz know each other from student days at the University of Chicago. Others are Chicago boys in spirit. The blog name is also intended as a good-humored gesture of admiration for distinguished Chicago boys including those pictured above.

Economic dynamism is to a substantial extent driven by the question of *what is valued* in a particular society. The economic development of France, for example, has been harmed over long periods of time by the high prestige of government jobs (in pre-revolutionary days, people *bought* government positions, which carried tax exemptions), hence taking talent away from the directly-productive segments of the economy.

Something similar seems to be happening in America today, with the great attraction many young people feel toward "non-profit organizations," academia, government, and law. This can only be accelerated by an Obama administration...if you choose a career in one of the above-mentioned fields, you can convert government spending from a cost into a profit center.
