Via Pejman Yousefzadeh, I hear that Norman Borlaug has passed; NYT obit.

In the face of caviling from scarcity-mentality “environmentalists,” he saved a billion lives. Requiescat in pace.

Sad news indeed. Alav ha shalom.

  2. Shannon Love Says:

Ah, hell, he was one of those great people I always wanted to meet. At least he could pass on looking back at a life well lived. He left the world a much better place than he found it. We should all hope for such a fate.

  3. Lexington Green Says:

A live well-lived. The difference between a real benefactor of humanity and a poser.

  4. Eddie Says:

One of the true greats in human history. I agree with Shannon’s point in his post that when we celebrate people like him rather than some celebrity or political poser, we will be a better society.

It remains utterly frightening that a few extremists could spread poorly argued falsehoods so successfully that even mainstream scientists and media figures with normally solid backgrounds would give an open forum to them. How many millions have died because of the lies told about Borlaug’s remarkable efforts and achievements?

  5. Robert Schwartz Says:

Flights of angels bear him to his rest.
