Well if “self interest” is defined as an aversion to a nanny state where personal freedom is limited – taxes are high to support the other half whose self interest is having the tax money go their way then yes; I would characterize that as a true statement.

When did the words “self interest” become a negative concept? Without “self interest” I might not have retired from teaching before I was gunned down on the playground.
Placing this comment in proximity to the NY Times article on fraud in psychology research and publication Makes for an interesting comparison. Those who choose to be left alone by a standardless world would certainly seem to have a rational self interest” at work, wouldn’t you say ? I would like to as far from those people as possible, thank you.
