C-47 Rescued by New Guinea Tribesmen

Natives Rescue Cargo Plane – When this Douglas C-47 plane of Major General St. Clair Streetts’ 13 AF crash-landed somewhere in the New Guinea jungle, far from the nearest American airdrome, chances of salvage seemed slim. But the chief of a nearby village came to the rescue and here the men of his tribe are seen dragging the Douglas C-47 from the bush. The natives regarded as a festive occasion this change to help the Fighting 13th fliers, and are wearing elaborate feather headdresses and necklaces. Throughout New Guinea, the Dutch East Indies, and the Philippines, where the natives have been mistreated by the Jap occupation troops, US airmen have encountered cooperation and help in emergencies
