Some Chicago Boyz know each other from student days at the University of Chicago. Others are Chicago boys in spirit. The blog name is also intended as a good-humored gesture of admiration for distinguished Chicago School economists and fellow travelers.

The first stapling device, called The Von Petz Sewing clamp, was in vented in 1920.
We had one at LA County when I was a resident but the staples had to be loaded by hand individually so nobody used it. The disposable staplers replaced similar instruemnst that were not disposable and which used cartridges of staples. I have have several of those instruments which were expensive but are worthless today. I don;t think you can even get the cartridges whch were probably as expensive as the disposable instruments are today.
I can think of a couple of applications of that robot today, like sewing in heart valves
