Some Chicago Boyz know each other from student days at the University of Chicago. Others are Chicago boys in spirit. The blog name is also intended as a good-humored gesture of admiration for distinguished Chicago School economists and fellow travelers.
An image in my mind that stuck with me was a passage in the opening of the book Unbroken about Louis Zamperini and his incredible story of survival first on a raft in the Pacific for 50 days then a Japanese POW camp. The scene describes his home in LA as the 800+ foot Hindenberg is flying over it – virtually like an eclipse as it is blocking the son for some time.
Hindenburg? Over LA? I don’t think so.
The Graf Zeppelin, I could believe.
You could could be right – I think the Hindenburg flew the Atlantic route – I just remember from the passage it was big – 800+ feet – and German
One wonders how air travel could have changed had not for that tragic explosion
