BMW in the 2000 oughts was known for their controversial “flame surfacing” body styling. They went from refined, clean lines of Teutonic efficiency to sci-fi choppiness. It sounds weird now, but the car world was up in arms about it.
It was most extreme on the Z4. You can see a little bit of it here – looks like an X3? – in the reflections around the fender and bottom of the doors.
