Outing the Assassination Campaign Against Iranian Nuke Scientists

Does this story mean that the US govt is not only not collaborating with Israel but is trying to undermine Israeli covert efforts? If so that is very bad news. We need more information. If the story is valid and our govt has decided to leak it to the press now, that suggests that we are 1) shockingly inept or 2) may be trying to cut a deal with the mullahs by sacrificing our ally or 3) both. Either way it sounds bad. I hope there’s more to the story.

  1. I think some “high ranking anonymous officials” should lose their jobs for this if the leaks were done without official permission. And be prosecuted under any applicable statutes as well.

If the looks *were* done with official permission, it’s one more reason we need to make certain their bosses lose their jobs come November.

Despite tensions, (and sometime stupidity on both ends of the relationship) Israel is an ally. Despite any good will the Iranian *people* may have for the US (this seems an article of faith from the media here in the SF Bay area) the Iranian *government* was, is, and will continue to be an enemy as long as the mullahs continue to control it. A targeted assassination campaign may not be “nice” – but as an alternative to direct military action that spills over onto the general population it may be both the most effective and humane action possible.

  2. Congress tied the hands of the CIA by prohibiting assassinations. What wouldn’t surprise me is the Obama administration doing this on their own – like infuriating the British telling the Russians how many nukes they had – with the serial numbers.

I wouldn’t put anything past them.

Do you thing they are doing anything behind the scenes with the Egyptians trying to get these 19 Americans out?

Promising them more aid while publicly saying they will withhold it?

    Hmmm?

  3. I am assuming that it is part of the ongoing effort to protect Iran from any consequences of its nuclear weapons program until such time as it becomes operational. If Israel is depending on any support or protection from its relationship with the United States as currently governed; Darwin is going strike right smartly.

Israel is on its own in a hostile world.

    Subotai Bahadur

  4. J Scott – the odd part to me is – what is the end game? That it is OK if Iran nukes Israel? Do they want the entire world enslaved to these thugs? I just don’t get it. Maybe someone smarter than myself can explain it to me.

If push comes to shove, they must know that there are millions of people like myself that will all be dead before we succumb to tyranny or any other type of insae rule such as the mullahs want. And we will take millions with us.

  5. what is the end game?

Irrelevant. Baraq Hussein is a lawyer. Process trumps outcome. And if the result is a kick in the pants to the imperialists, all the better.

  6. LOL. In both the Christian and Jewish religions, two of the three “peoples of the book” there is this little, how you say, commandment: “Thou shalt not kill”. Now it’s fascinating to read the various weasel commentaries, I can say that kind of stuff, I am neither a Christian or Jew, that make it sorta OK to kill for various reasons.

All that is fine and somewhat defines the problems a church can cause for it’s religion. The Buddha said it is and will be the cause of any religion’s downfall.

The actual reasons. Tit for tat. They can do it too. It’s actually easier to assassinate someone in the US or Israel than in Iran. I think it’s likely a message was sent: Either rein in those psychopaths in Israel and the CIA or we will escalate this with all the power at our disposal including recruitment of criminal groups and suicide bombings on US soil.

What would you do? Go to war with Iran of course. Priceless.

  7. Not sure what “US Govt” in the post-2008 era actually means. Don’t sleep well these days, and it ain’t the economy thats keeping me up.

  8. I am neither a Christian or Jew

Practically speaking, you are who your enemies think you are. You can call yourself whatever you’d like, but only fools and people who are ignorant of history believe that declaring themselves atheists or wiccans or whatever insulates them from the real world. Unfortunately there are many fools and ignorant people in western societies.

The Islamists aren’t too keen on Buddhists either, BTW.

Yeah, look at what the Taliban did to the two statues of the Buddha at Bamiyan. It was to prevent idolatry a huge Muslim no no, but Mullah Omar did try to save them.

A shame to see ancient art destroyed but on another, peculiarly Buddhist level, extremely funny.
