Cascade

And so it begins; at first a trickle of rocks falling down a steep mountainside; then more and bigger rocks, and then half the mountainside comes away and falls away in a mighty roar, the earth trembles, and White House spokes-minion Jay Carney is probably looking around desperately trying to figure out what hit him.
The first of these is l’Affaire Benghazi, which just will not die, especially as those who serve at the front line in the military and at the State Department are totting up their personal balance sheets. My semi-informed guess is that such personnel are concluding that if and when they should ever be unlucky enough to be the target of a local protest, that the highest echelons of their command will let it all happen, merely to enhance their own political aspirations. Hillary Clinton did herself no favors with, “At this point, what difference does it make.” Hillary, babe, it makes a great deal of difference, most especially to the friends, associates and next of kin. We always knew that you despised the serving military, anyway. Say buh-bye to any thought of running in 2016 and being a female head of state; at this point you aren’t fit to carry Margaret Thatcher’s jock-strap.

The biggest, and the most damaging cascade is a revelation – from a representative of the IRS yet – that the IRS willfully, deliberately and maliciously targeted Tea Party groups in their efforts to establish themselves as 501 organizations, while giving a pass to progressive groups doing pretty much the same kind of thing. That was about as bright as Pickett’s Charge for several reasons; everybody hates the IRS anyway, now it looks as if pro-Israeli Jewish groups and Billy Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse group were similarly scrutinized and harassed with endless demands for information regarding the actions and members of the various groups, and honest liberals hated it when Nixon did this to groups and individuals that he perceived as enemies. Great way to unify the nation, people; using government bureaucracy to target perceived enemies. At least the brighter progressives have twigged that doing so can be very, very dangerous.

Secretly obtaining the phone records of reporters for the Associated Press… at this point, I have to stop and giggle manically. Way to go, Justice Department; tread heavily all over the mainstream press, or as I like to call them, the Obama White House’s Public Affairs Division. The mainstream press carried him into the White House on their shoulders and cheered him on ever since, and for all that loyal service, they get treated like this?

It is curious that suddenly, all of this is breaking loose now. My daughter and I speculate that perhaps it is driven by the rivalry between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama which first broke into the open in the 2008 Dem convention. I referred to it the battle of Ebony and Ovary, back then, when I wasn’t calling them Her Inevitableness and the Fresh Prince of Chicago. Just suppose that she is using the IRS imbroglio against him, and he is using the Benghazi debacle against her – or vice versa. Suppose also that the more self-aware members of the mainstream press and the political establishment in Washington are just beginning to conclude that Obama is tainted goods – and it might be good to dust off Her Inevitableness again and present her as pure and pristine, while hanging on to some few pitiful remnants of their reputation as honest brokers.

Discuss … and break out more popcorn. (Thoughts from the great Den Beste, here. Crossposted at www.ncobrief.com)

  1. the MSM just realized that Obama has an ethical STD and they are all asking themselves … “How often did we do it without protection ?”

  2. “Suppose also that the more self-aware members of the mainstream press and the political establishment in Washington are just beginning to conclude that Obama is tainted goods…”

Charlie Rangel, of all people, has turned on the zero now. You know you are in trouble when….

  3. Dan – that is hilarious – Charlie Rangle, that paragon of morality.

Sgt Mom – I know I am a bit cynical to wonder why all this is coming out as soon as the Zero is reelected

BTW an interesting link I think you will like – from the bbc – on German in Texas (scoured Google for a contact email for you and came up zero)

  4. Oh, Bill – we know why it’s all coming out after the 2012 election – but why all of it just at this very moment.
I liked the BBC link about the German speakers. The very last generation to have it as their first language are now in their 80ies and 90ies. (email is clyahayes-at-gmail-dot-com.)

  5. Your efforts to create mountains is amusing. The right is striving mightily to instill outrage and the general population just does not care much. They seem to be pretty aware actually.

The complaints on Fox about Benghazi not upsetting most people was a LOL. So indignant.

As far as I can tell not one Tea Party organization was denied tax exempt status throughout this brouhaha, although it’s not a popular statistic.

So the Justice Department has done a Rupert Murdoch has it? ;)

I suggest you go to the links and inform yourself.
But then ignorance from you is no surprise. Rather, it is to be expected.

Well I read all that and I’m not sure what you are talking about. One poor woman freaked out, over herself really, and that’s massive oppression?

There is little here, have fun with it. The party of tea sure can throw tempests. Oh I’m sorry, I have gone to pot, pure terpenes only, but of course you understand. ;)

  8. Still waiting for the Big Sis Scandal to hit, or is it too governmenty? Asking those you regulate for “voluntary contributions” to fund what Congress refused to fund? We had a similar school board scandal here and the member just couldn’t see what was wrong “its for the children”.

  9. This was via Hugh Hewitt talking to a member of the Republican leadership, Rep Devin Nunes on his show, when the subject of the AP phone trace came up.

This is the transcript from the Hot Air Blog —

    ==================
Would You Believe The Administration Got Phone Records of The House Of Representatives?
posted at 8:12 pm on May 15, 2013 by Duane Patterson

That’s the revelation made by California Congressman Devin Nunes, who sits on the House Ways And Means Committee on Hugh Hewitt’s Show Wednesday night. Here’s the key part of that transcript:

HH: The idea that this might be a Geithner-Axelrod plan, and by that, the sort of intimation, Henry II style, will no one rid me of this turbulent priest, will no one rid me of these turbulent Tea Parties, that might have just been a hint, a shift of an eyebrow, a change in the tone of voice. That’s going to take a long time to get to. I don’t trust the Department of Justice on this. Do you, Congressman Nunes?

DN: No, I absolutely do not, especially after this wiretapping incident, essentially, of the House of Representative. I don’t think people are focusing on the right thing when they talk about going after the AP reporters. The big problem that I see is that they actually tapped right where I’m sitting right now, the Cloak Room.

HH: Wait a minute, this is news to me.

DN: The Cloak Room in the House of Representatives.

HH: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

DN: So when they went after the AP reporters, right? Went after all of their phone records, they went after the phone records, including right up here in the House Gallery, right up from where I’m sitting right now. So you have a real separation of powers issue that did this really rise to the level that you would have to get phone records that would, that would most likely include members of Congress, because as you know…

    HH: Wow.

DN: …members of Congress talk to the press all the time.

HH: I did not know that, and that is a stunner.

DN: Now that is a separation of powers issue here, Hugh.

    HH: Sure.

DN: And it’s a freedom of press issue. And now you’ve got the IRS going after people. So these things are starting to cascade one upon the other, and you have the White House pretending like they’re in the clouds like it’s not their issue somehow.

Exit question: I’m sure mainstream media, and the other two branches of government, see no problem whatsoever in secret records searches between the two branches, right? No separation of powers issue here. Heh. Can’t wait to see if this gets picked up tomorrow.

Update (Ed): Headline changed for accuracy. Also edited final paragraph for same reason.

Democratic Minority Leader Pelosi now has a major problem with her caucus.

  10. No Nixon, no Watergate. This won’t even rise to the level of Clintongate.

It’s chief use is the further inflame the at last awake people.

The Tea Party: Naked intimidation worked in 2012 and will continue to work. The actual Tea Party profile being exactly “Stay-At-Home-Mom” it’s unreasonable to expect further heroics from them.

MEN. MEN. SHAME. NOT ONLY OUR WOMEN BUT OUR MOTHERS HAVE TO CARRY THE WATER?

Is any fate worse than continuing to endure shame at the hands of weak degenerates? THEY/ARE/BLUFFING.

They are weak people who’ve put their dainty feet in the Iron Boots and can neither extract their effeeties nor even walk in them. Never mind Kick Ass with them…

Let it roll on, but don’t expect the normal course of politics to bring us anything but more of the same. This is the normal course of politics.

As far as I can tell not one Tea Party organization was denied tax exempt status throughout this brouhaha, although it’s not a popular statistic.

Not surprisingly, it is not a statistic you have backed up with any documentation. From Nate Silver at the NYT:I.R.S. Approved Dozens of Tea Party Groups Following Congressional Scrutiny

Public data from the Internal Revenue Service, which recently acknowledged that agency officials singled out conservative groups for special scrutiny, shows that dozens of Tea Party groups were approved for tax exempt status beginning in May 2012. That was the same month that Representative Dave Camp of Michigan wrote to the I.R.S. asking for information about all “social welfare” groups that had applied for tax-exempt status in 2010 and 2011, to determine whether the I.R.S. was targeting conservative groups.

The flurry of approvals that came in the next few months was a sharp break from the previous two years, during which the agency approved just a handful of 501(c)(4) applications from Tea Party groups.

The public data provided by the I.R.S. does not include information on when groups submitted their applications for tax-exempt status, or how long they waited compared to the average application
During the entire two-year span — from March 2010, when the agency began singling out conservative groups, to April 2012, just before it received Mr. Camp’s letter and changed its search criteria for the last time — the I.R.S. approved the applications of just four groups with those conservative keywords in their names. After the I.R.S. altered its search criteria the final time, the agency approved more than 40 Tea Party applications.

The BC Bourbon- who neither learns nor forgets anything- once again shows why he is an ignoramus.

  12. Well the wheels can come off the bus, it arrived at it’s destination, which was Obamacare. The rest was just gravy and he got lots of that as well.

Vehicles on chock blocks are the New American Dream. It means the owners are on welfare.

He’s not going anywhere until Jan 20th, 2017. This will probably be forgotten by 2014.

When most of the people have been made deliberately dependent, they vote for corn. It’s been working since Rome, if not Athens. It’s why the Dems still control inner cities that look like Dresden and have Sao Paulo crime rates.

    Their program works. For them.

In these interesting times, it is good to see that someone retains some optimism, unwarranted as it may be.

  14. “optimism”?

Good Grief. LOL. I’m not a fan. I’m a realist. He’s not going to be thrown out. He’s not. The key part of the Watergate equation was Nixon.

Besides-this guy is a salesman who doesn’t understand his own product, none of them do now. If they did they would *never* screw around with the elections, via the IRS.

Elections are a powerful ritual empty of real power, but such a powerful symbol it’s the goddess whose virtue must not be questioned.

I am optimistic about America. This is NOT “The End Of America”. America has far too much going for it, of which our Human Capital while considerable may not be the most important. There’s geography and resources as well.

The end of New Deal Government – which is what we’re trying to keep going at the cost of bankrupting everything including our morals – is not the end of America. It isn’t. To end America would take a meteor strike or Global Thermonuclear War.

Now there will be a Trial. There will. But that is the fate of man.

In the words of a modern successful American Immigrant: STOP BEING SUCH A PUSSY. NOW!!!

  15. “In the words of a modern successful American Immigrant: STOP BEING SUCH A PUSSY. NOW!!!”

I think you misunderstand. I grant that a pseudo html “smile” tag did not come through.

I was saying that I think that you were being optimistic thinking that Buraq Hussein would actually leave office on January 20, 2017. And by implication that he and his regime are subject to legal or constitutional restrictions.

As far as being a pussy, I am not trying to avoid what will be the most trying time for this country since 1861; I accept that it will be unavoidable and that many people will not survive it. Including quite possibly me and mine.

Be Thou then Truly resolved. That Duty is as Heavy as a mountain, and Death is as light as a feather.
