Slow acting WMD? If you accept biological weapons as mass destruction, wouldn’t that make the catapult and a few enemy cadavers the first WMD? It ended quite a few sieges months earlier than starvation would have.
I think we will be doing enough things at night and under ground or sea that we will need something to supplement photovoltaic energy sources. SNAP seems to fit the bill pretty well; the nuclear batteries in satelites are an outgrowth of that program, ne? And it has the virtue of de-centralizing power production and not requiring materials that can be processed to weapons grade.
