The 1930s riots, like the Intifada, occurred mainly in Arab areas and I think were much less violent. I don’t know exactly where this photo was made but it had to have been in a relatively tranquil Jewish area.
Even at the height of the recent Intifada it wasn’t very dangerous to be in Israel. For example, deaths from traffic accidents occurred at a much higher rate than did deaths from terror attacks. Of course, the press doesn’t emphasize traffic accidents.
