Certainly in evidence today…

I dunno about that. I think the algorithm is “Try A” and if the response is positive, keep doing it, if the response is negative, stop doing it, and “Try B”, etc. It’s all dependent on continuous (non-fatal) feedback. The problem is that modern society, especially those rarefied heights occupied by the “elites”, has removed the feedback mechanisms, so they never are forced to learn or adapt.
