Jane Novak, at Armies of Liberation, has a post on the ideology of terrorism. She quotes Imam Al-Sudayyis of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, who spoke to both Palestinian suicide bombers and the wider Islamic community on Saudi Television:
You have revived the hopes of this nation through your blessed Jihad. By Allah, be patient until, with Allahs help, one of two good things will be awarded you: either victory or martyrdom. Our hearts are with you; our prayers are dedicated to you. The Islamic nation will not spare money or effort in support of your cause.
You cannot view that statement without considering the carnage and deliberate execution of children and their parents which we all just witnessed in Russia; without remembering the shock, destruction and death of September 11; without thinking of the horrific spectacles of busloads of people incinerated weekly in Israel.
We are forced by these events to consider the question of what constitutes a legitimate target in war. We can approach the subject from two distinct directions: that of the moral-ethical and from the military-strategic.

The year was 1935. The China Clipper was about to make transoceanic passenger service a reality. The flight, from San Francisco to Manilla, took six days, with a flying time of 60 hours. There were overnight stopovers in Honolulu, Midway, Wake Island, and Guam. Holy cow. Six days! Still, direct passenger service from California to Hawaii in one day was a stunning achievement in 1935. The first nine passengers paid $1,438.20 for a round trip from San Francisco to Manila. That would be about $10,000 per ticket today. When it arrived in Pearl Harbor, 3,000 people showed up to watch it land on the waves and cruise in to port. It was a major event.
Am I just getting older, or does the left get nuttier and more violent with each passing year? They’re not even coherent anymore. They squeal incessently about abrogation of free speech, then hold a ‘Shut-Up-A-Thon‘ in front of Fox news. Suppose they see the irony in that? I doubt it.
Gotta love the title too. Reclaimthemedia. At least they’re upfront about their intentions. Suppress the broadcast of non-leftwing thought to the American populace. Information control. Some tendencies in the left must be just inborn or something.
I suppose having ONE politcally conservative media channel is just way too over-the-top for the ‘free speech’ folks. Can’t have people hearing alternative viewpoints and all. Of course, to these folks, NPR is merely a tool of the evil, corporate, warmonger-profiteer-babykiller-oilbarons.

…the weather has continued to deteriorate and the forecast is that it will be worse next year.There are two possible explanations, both of them connected with the space program although not in the way the old wives’ tales suggest.
The first theory is that although landing on the moon had no effect on terrestrial weather, the more recent unmanned probes of Mars well may have disrupted our climate in ways just now becoming apparent. It stands to reason.
Ummm, no it doesn’t. But please, do go on….
