Quote of the Day

IN THE WEST, we are used to thinking that Israel cannot survive without the help of Europe and the United States. Tonight I say to you: Maybe we should start wondering whether we in Europe and the United States can survive if we allow the terrorists to succeed in Israel.
Rupert Murdoch

In this new century, the “West” is no longer a matter of geography. The West is defined by societies committed to freedom and democracy. That at least is how the terrorists see it. And if we are serious about meeting this challenge, we would expand the only military alliance committed to the defense of the West to include those on the front lines of this war. That means bringing countries such as Israel into NATO.

My friends, I do not pretend to have all the answers to Gaza this evening. But I do know this: The free world makes a terrible mistake if we deceive ourselves into thinking this is not our fight.

  1. It is the same fight that we lost in Germany and Eastern Europe in the 1930s. If Militant (is that redundant?) Islam can bring down Israel, a Western country, what will be their next target? Holland? Canada? France?

  2. Absolutely spot on. The Europeans, especially, had better get their thinking straightened out and stop supporting theocracies and dictatorships over the Middle East’s only free democracy, because I suspect that the US is going to be pulling away from support of Israel over the next four years, so it’s the end of the free ride for Europe: no more sophomoric protesting over the evil Zionistas. Time to get real.

  3. Spain always appeared to be one of the first on their agenda. Not that it makes all that much difference: few anywhere thought it was their fight. Most seemed to think it was a fantasy of that gauche George Bush. Well, they got what they wanted. And already Obama has offered to throw Eastern Europe off the sled – even before the wolves’ barking came close.
